It's Been A While

I haven't posted in a while and I haven't put anything on TPT for awhile. It's been a ho-hum time lately. We are settled in our routines and I have had enough resources of my own that I haven't had to make any additional ones. But all that is about to change.

I am starting a Movement unit in Science. With spring here and staffing season approaching, DH and I were talking yesterday about what I can do to really "WOW" the principal in hopes that he will ensure I have employment for September. Plus, with such crappy weather all winter, I want the students to be able to get outside and have fun for a change! The culminating task for the students in this unit is to design and create a car using recycable materials (kleenex boxes, lids for wheels, etc.). DH is going to make a ramp out of wood and we are going to host Boxcar Ramp Racing at the school (hopefully outside - weather permitting). We will have invitations for parents and the principal and VP and will stage a bracket event for ramp racing. We'll have snacks for the students and prior to the event, we will have an Expo where other classes can come in, see the cars they have made, ask questions about their designs, etc. My students will love this, the administration will love this, and I will love this.

A focus in our board is to move to a more inquiry based learning format and this will be a perfect opportunity for students to really ask questions and experiment.

My hope is to get through the rest of the Science unit (there are many aspects of the unit) by the first week of May. The rest of May will be spent designing and creating the cars with the Expo held on May 28th and the Ramp Race on May 31st.

I have been so commited to this class this year but I don't know how VISIBLE I have been. This is my chance to be SEEN and HEARD. Wish me luck!
