I went into my new school today and boy, what a difference! The past 3 years, I have been in larger schools {for our area} that are in lower-income neighbourhoods. My students' files were sometimes accordion files and it took a full day just getting through them to make notes. Today, I started organizing my space {I have my own desk this year!} and trying to pull together my schedule and start making plans for the first week. I met my teaching partner {it appears our senses of humour are quite similar} and went through the files for my students. Imagine my delight when I realized that I could go through all of them in less than an hour, make notes, and refile them! I only have 1 IEP - count 'em... 1 - and no other major issues except for 2 students with APD ~ something I am very familiar with. The school is so small, so rural, and every single student is bussed. I am used to a school where every single student walked, except for those who came from a nearby native reserve.
I can tell already that I'm going to have a great time creating new things for my class!
One thing I am already in the process of revamping is my Math Rotation program. I'll post more about that later in the week when I get things figured out, but it's going to be better than last year's, I promise you that.
I hope that everyone has a wonderful "Back to School" time!
