Lack of Posts!

My apologies for not posting more. I am currently working on finishing up our current units before we have our March Break. In math, we are still working on number sense and numeration. It is taking awhile and since I feel this is one of the most important units to help the students move forward, I don't want to rush things. The Math Stations has helped tremendously. My class is working hard at all times. We are also doing one "thinking question" a week. This week, I split the class into pairs and gave each pair 14 snap cubes (7 of 2 different colours), half of a chart paper, and markers that matched the colours of the their snap cubes. Then they were given the instructions to make as many 2-colour "trains" with 7 snap cubes. They got to work quickly and LOVED it. My board is moving towards more of an inquiry-based learning system and these questions definitely help with this. It's difficult to really get into inquiry-based learning with students who struggle with their literacy so much.

In Science, we are still working on our Weather and Seasons unit. I have taken a break from our Hands On Science manual to work on my own mini-unit for our seasons. We will wrap this up by March Break and then after, will continue with our Hands On Science. We need nicer weather and access to our school yard (which is currently looking like a lake) to be able to do some of the activities. It would be nice to carry the unit through at least until we see the first buds on trees, etc. After this unit is Movement (snooze) so I am trying to make this one as fun as possible.

So over the next few weeks, I will be preparing to move into 2-D shapes in Math and Movement in Science and will be making more items for those. In the meantime, I hope you all are enjoying wonderful days in your classrooms, had a wonderful Spring Break, or wish you a wonderful March Break in only 9 days!
